John Charles Thomas is the Director of Communications and Political Initiatives for the Florida League of Cities. He is responsible for all the external and internal communications for the League and develops and implements the League’s political agenda. He also is responsible for all policy research for the organization.

Before joining the League, he was Senior Vice President of Public Private Partnership, Inc., a government and corporate affairs consulting firm based in Tallahassee, Florida. Mr. Thomas also served in the administration of Florida Govenor Lawton Chiles. Mr. Thomas was the Director of Cabinet Affairs and serves as the Senior Legislative Director to the Governor, where he had the responsibility of guiding the Governor’s legislative agenda through the Florida Legislature.

Prior to joining the Governor’s office in 1994, he was the Government Relations Director for the University of South Florida.

Mr. Thomas is a Class IX graduate of Leadership Florida and serves as the Chair of its Board of Directors. He is the former President of the University of South Florida (USF) National Alumni Association Board of Directors and a former member of the Board of Trustees for Florida TaxWatch. Mr. Thomas is currently a board member of the Warrick Dunn Family Foundation, and a member of the Children’s Home Society of Florida, North Central Division board of directors. His is also a board member of the United Way of the Big Bend. A life member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., he graduated from USF in 1981 with a B.A. degree in Mass Communications. He is married and is the father of four daughters.
